There is a large amount of research on health disparities. The following offer a starting point for understanding health disparities by race and ethnicity in Massachusetts.
Racism and Racial Inequities in Health: A Data-Informed Primer on Health Disparities in Massachusetts by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation presents a data-informed reflection of racial and ethnic and health inequities and disparities in the Commonwealth.
In Fall 2020, the Massachusetts Department of Health (DPH) conducted an online survey to assess emerging health needs influenced by the pandemic and which populations were most impacted by them. DPH collected robust data from priority populations to understand their specific needs and experiences.
The Health Opportunity and Equity (HOPE) Initiative provides an interactive data tool that tracks social determinants of health and health outcomes by race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. HOPE uses an opportunity framework to set aspirational but achievable goals to improve life outcomes, especially for populations of color.
